This weeks column .. "Personal Ads"
Tips main page / This weeks column

Ever wonder why some people place a personal ad? Some are genuine in their attempts to meet new, interesting people. They long for that spark to be found and felt by both, when they talk, touch, & kiss. Others try to shed old pains and mistrusts, so they can heal online as they explore this new medium and broaden their horizons. Finally we come to those that are just killing time. They want to see what the response will be like, talk and get emails, but never have any intention to go any further.

So, how do you weed through this vast array of ads online and find the perfect mate? There seems to be no easy answer. Some will say only write to people that post a picture. Why? It could be ten years old, or not even their own pic. It all comes down to trust and patience. Trust your intuition and your "gut" reaction. When you meet someone in the realworld, how they carry themselves, and react or act is key to your decisions of exploring further. But, online you only have this faceless persona, so you talk off-line, and see what you can discern from their voice. Then after a time you decide to meet.

Okay now comes common sense time. It's widely accepted your first meeting should not be at your place or theirs. It should be a public place, well populated, and "common ground". Some say it should not be a place you normally frequent. (If it doesn't work out you won't be running into them later).

Unfortunately there is no guidebook. A good idea is to take a friend along. There is strength in numbers. It's a sad fact but not everyone online is a "nice person". Read the headlines, and watch the TV news, you have to be on your guard at all times anymore.

In short, be safe, think with your head, not your heart. Always let someone know when you are going to meet your new friend. Let them know where you will meet them, at what time, when you expect to be home, etc.. NEVER RUSH INTO MEETING, and NEVER LET THEM PUSH YOU INTO MEETING!!! A genuine person will understand going slow, and respect your wishes, they may even feel less pressured themselves. Take your time, get to know them. There is no hurry or deadline on love and romance. In fact waiting is a great way to be sure, and to enjoy it more!

Of course I could be wrong, I'm no expert..:) But just in case, Be Prepared !
