This weeks column .. "Love and the net"
Tips main page / This weeks column

Ever wonder why you got online? Many are intrigued with the net, many are disenchanted. So many possibilities, so many mountain peaks to aspire to, and many pitfalls too. No I'm not talking about monetary endeavors, but the development of interpersonal relationships. Some online see this new medium as the epitome of ways to meet the perfect person to spend your life with.

Okay let's examine the avenues available. You place a personal ad, you wander around chatrooms, you allow strangers into your heart. Okay stop right here, strangers we are taught are not allowed in the house. Not without our parents around to monitor their presence. Yet we let them into our hearts. Seems more dangerous then allowing them to watch TV with us. What makes people trust so readily online? "Oh he's not like that, he's sensitive and genuine..". Or "She's my soulmate, she understands me better than anyone I have ever met.." And so on, Don't get me wrong, many online have found the perfect mate. But many will tell you, they had to kiss a lot of toads to find a Prince or Princess. I guess what we will agree on is even in real-time we meet people we will always remember and those we will always try to forget.

Cyber Stalking is on the rise, as is the breakup of marriages and relationships. The true reason is not your online connection, it's the breakdown of the human connection with your mate and/or spouse. Think about this for a minute. When your car needs fixing, and it's fairly new you have it repaired. But now people online dump their present relationship for something sportier, and intriguing.

The truth is those with stable relationships and a life off-line, rarely venture online to search for a way to fill the void. Those with a longing for companionship, or human contact of any kind, will endure heartbreak after heartbreak in search of the dating grail, a stable loving relationship. I suppose meeting people online is similar to the older way of meeting people via mail, "pen pals" after a time have grown into loving
relationships. The Internet just expedites this process.

What is your opinion? Stop by our forum roundtable and voice it today..

Of course I could be wrong, I'm no expert..:)
