Well
this should bring me some interesting emails. Do you think you
can really fall in genuine love online, without ever having met
the person face to face? Or is this merely a way to fill a void
in someone's life? With the Internet growing daily, many online
have broadened their search for love, to include personal ads, chatrooms,
and forums. AR has all three. So what are we to decide? Can you
fall for the person you meet online? And if so, is this persona
an honest one? How do you know they are single? How do we know the
picture they send is current? Do looks really matter if your minds
touch each other? How far will you go online? Would you feel comfortable
telling realworld friends that you are in love, totally and completely
with someone you have never met in person? Would you refuse a date
offered in the real world? Would you agree to an exclusive relationship,
and only "see" the person you are in love with on-line?
Tough questions, in this age of depersonalization, and "Cyber"
relationships, much of the old magic is lost. That first date, holding
hands, looking into their eyes when those 3 little words are spoken.
There is (in my humble opinion) a lot to be said for doing things
the old fashioned way. I admit there are pluses in On-Line Dating,
but there are pitfalls too.
Case in point, you no longer have to stick to your own neighborhood.
But therein lies the rub.. Broadening your horizons and boundaries
is keeping the phone company well paid. Why? Your phone bill goes
up dramtically when you allow your heart to wander out of state.
You just have to hear their voice. Typing only works for
a little while. There are excellent voice chat services available
online for FREE. Yahoo,
AOL
messenger, and many more offer a fine way to combat high phone
bills. But most prefer the closeness and privacy aspect of the phone.
Some will lead complete lives online. They come home from
work, chat to their love, talk about their day, take cyber trips
online, and go months and months, and never meet the person face
to face. Generally for fear the magic will be gone. Well think for
a minute, if it is, was it ever really there?
So many questions,
and so little space to list them all. Perhaps you can fall in love
online, there are a lot of lonely people searching for that romantic
brass ring. I wish them all luck in their daily persuits. I'll keep
my ears open to see how many work, and how many, well ..
In closing, I think this issue at least will spark some interesting
talks by the water cooler. I hope this has enlightened and entertained,
because ..
I could
be wrong, I'm no expert..:)
